Rare Muskox Sighting Captured on Video in Labrador

Date:

Sabrina and Junior Hunt were surprised to discover an unusual sight during their boating trip to their cabin on Shabougamou Lake in Labrador West. Initially mistaken for a pile of wood, the object revealed itself to be a muskox, a rare occurrence in the area. The couple observed the muskox walking along the shoreline as they approached on their boat, capturing the unique encounter on video.

The Hunts described the muskox as large and black, with its fur swaying like a magical grass skirt as it leisurely moved around. Muskox are typically found in Arctic tundra regions but have been sporadically sighted in Labrador, possibly migrating from herds in northern Quebec. The Department of Forestry, Agriculture, and Lands expressed surprise at the sighting, noting its rarity and the extension of the animal’s known range.

The couple’s video footage of the muskox in Labrador West has garnered attention for this unusual sighting in the region.
