This revelation follows the resignation of another Anthropic researcher who voiced concerns about the reckless progression of AI development. Jacob Coxon, formerly associated with Anthropic and OpenAI, expressed apprehensions regarding the unchecked pursuit of self-improving AI models by companies. He highlighted that despite public reassurances, many individuals within the industry privately acknowledge the existential threat posed by AI. Coxon’s revelations garnered significant attention, with millions of views on social media platforms.
Evan Hubinger from Anthropic echoed Coxon’s sentiments, emphasizing the genuine concern within the industry regarding the potential catastrophic impact of AI. He suggested a likelihood greater than 10% of human extinction due to AI within the next ten years.
