A woman and a teenage girl have been arrested in connection with a severe assault that left another woman in critical condition. Scarlett Faulkner, aged 29 and from Limerick, is currently in critical condition at Cork University Hospital after being attacked on the R494 in Birdhill, Co Tipperary. The incident occurred last Saturday, where Ms. Faulkner’s vehicle was forced off the road, and she was subsequently assaulted.

Ms. Faulkner, a mother of one, sustained serious head injuries and was initially taken to University Hospital Limerick before being transferred to Cork University Hospital for further treatment, according to reports from Dublin Live.

The authorities took action on Thursday morning when officers from Nenagh arrested a woman in her 40s and a teenage girl at a location in Limerick related to the assault. Both individuals were held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at police stations in Co Tipperary.

Following their detention, both suspects have been formally charged and appeared before a special session at Limerick District Court on Saturday around 5 pm.

A spokesperson for the police stated that investigations are ongoing and advised the public against sharing any video footage of the incident online. Instead, individuals are encouraged to provide any recordings to the investigating authorities. Authorities are also seeking information about a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran people carrier spotted in the vicinity during the time of the incident.

Road users who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway from 5 pm to 6 pm on March 21 are urged to share any camera footage they may have, including dash-cam recordings, with the police. Specifically, details on the movements of the two vehicles, a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran people carrier, traveling together or recklessly between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm on the day of the incident in and around Birdhill village and neighboring areas in Co Tipperary are of interest to the authorities.
