“Winter Olympics Village Depletes Condom Supply Amid Athlete Encounters”

Date:

Reports indicate that the Winter Olympics village has exhausted its condom supply despite distributing 10,000 free condoms to athletes. The living quarters for Olympians during the Games have a reputation for being lively, with numerous stories of amorous encounters surfacing over time.

Authorities are addressing potential issues by providing complimentary contraceptives. However, while 200,000 condoms were distributed during the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only 10,000 were given out at Milano Cortina.

Despite a smaller athlete presence in northern Italy this month compared to the previous event in Paris, with around 10,500 competitors then and nearly 3,000 now, the allocation of condoms has proven insufficient.

An unnamed athlete disclosed to the Italian newspaper La Stampa on Thursday that the condom supplies were depleted within three days. Reassurances were made about additional supplies, but the timeline remains uncertain.

In an effort to curb activities away from the public eye, Olympic organizers have reportedly introduced so-called ‘anti-sex’ beds. However, the modified cardboard bed design does not seem to be deterring behavior as intended.

This is not the first instance of condoms running out at the Olympics. At the Sydney 2000 Games, an additional 20,000 condoms had to be ordered after the initial 70,000 were used up.

An outbreak of a sexually transmitted infection would pose a significant risk to the Games. Athletes arriving in Milan were reminded of the importance of prioritizing health and using preventive measures.

A former Olympic gold medalist shed light on the vivid nature of village life, emphasizing the prevalence of intimate encounters. The athlete highlighted that such interactions are a part of the Olympic culture, despite attempts to downplay them.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games are taking place from February 6-22, offering over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video for sports enthusiasts.

Throughout the event, the £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription will grant access to TNT Sports 2, the primary source for round-the-clock Olympic coverage.
