A mother has faced criticism for purchasing seven Easter eggs for each of her children this holiday season. Gemma Loveden, 39, revealed that she spent approximately £120 on chocolate eggs to gift to her six kids this Easter. Her shopping spree included £75 worth of treats from Aldi, with additional eggs bought from Home Bargains and Tesco.
Following a TikTok video showcasing her Easter egg collection, Gemma received backlash online as some questioned the necessity of providing such a large quantity of chocolate to children. Critics labeled her actions as “greedy” and expressed concerns about the health implications of consuming excessive sugar.
In defense, Gemma shared a photo of the chocolate eggs laid out on the floor alongside Easter pajamas and extra goodies she plans to give her children. She emphasized that her kids are in good health and view the chocolate eggs as a special indulgence, assuring that they will not consume them all at once. While acknowledging that her approach may not align with every household’s norms, Gemma defended her choice to “spoil” her children, asserting her right to spend her money as she sees fit.
Addressing the controversy, Gemma, a content creator from Bury, Lancashire, stated, “They’ve each received seven Easter eggs. I estimate spending between £110 to £120 on Easter chocolate for them. I believe in providing the best for my kids, and this is our family’s tradition, though I understand it may not resonate with everyone.”
She continued, “During Christmas, we also indulge. I relish the opportunity to pamper my kids. As a social media professional, I earn money and should have the freedom to spend it as I choose. Their health won’t suffer as they are already healthy children. They naturally prefer fruits over chocolate. Easter is a nostalgic time for children, and I want to create lasting memories for them.”
Gemma hinted at the possibility of purchasing more chocolate treats for her children before Easter, potentially increasing the count from seven to nine eggs per child. Despite the criticism, her video showcasing the Easter egg haul garnered more than 1,700 comments and 23,000 likes, with reactions ranging from disapproval to support for her generous gesture.
While some online users condemned Gemma’s actions, labeling them as excessive and unhealthy, others defended her right to treat her children to an abundance of Easter eggs. Amid the debate, Gemma remains steadfast in her belief that providing these treats is a way to create joyous memories for her children during the holiday season.
