A new scam targeting Amazon customers who made purchases in March has been reported, falsely claiming a “product recall” has been issued. The fraudulent text message, received by UK phone users, starts with an alarming notification stating “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”
The message offers a full refund to recipients and prompts them to click on a link to sign in to their Amazon account. It insists on the immediate discontinuation of product use to add urgency to the situation.
The text, which has been viewed by Mirror Online, informs customers of a product recall affecting an item from their March 2026 order due to a design flaw posing a safety risk. However, there is no actual recall; it is a phishing scam aimed at tricking concerned customers into divulging their login details.
Clicking the link directs users to a fake Amazon login page that appears authentic. By entering their credentials, scammers can gain access to the information and potentially conduct unauthorized transactions, lock users out of their accounts, or obtain personal data.
While this scam is relatively new, having recently started appearing on phones, it is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. Earlier, in February, cybercriminals circulated messages claiming a recall of an item “for safety reasons,” linking to a counterfeit Amazon page, prompting a warning from consumer group Which?
Amazon advises caution against scams that request payments through email, phone, or text, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and reporting suspected scams to safeguard accounts and involve law enforcement. Customers are also urged to be wary of unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, misspelled links, odd formatting, or URLs using IP addresses instead of standard web addresses.
