William Cooper Gatch, aged 23, was exploring an unmarked trail at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Connecticut on April 6. Reports indicate that he slipped during the hike. The authorities, including the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), were alerted to the situation around 11:45 am that day.
DEEP confirmed that emergency responders found William in the woods after the fall, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. The DEEP Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) are overseeing the investigation in collaboration with relevant offices to determine the cause of death. Early assessments suggest that the incident was accidental.
