A recent ransom note has surfaced, claiming to have crucial information about the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, a grandmother, with intentions to “torment” her family, according to a law enforcement official.
The note hinted at the potential location of Nancy’s body, coinciding with her daughter Savannah’s return to work at NBC’s “Today” show. Nancy, aged 84, was reportedly taken from her residence in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1.
Various ransom notes have been sent out since Nancy’s disappearance, with conflicting messages being relayed to the media. Some notes suggested Nancy was deceased, while others indicated she was still alive.
Unidentified individuals sent notes to TMZ, demanding a payment of one bitcoin in exchange for details. The current value of a single bitcoin is estimated at £52,973.
FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer expressed skepticism regarding the legitimacy of these notes, suspecting possible scam activities. Coffindaffer pointed out the timing of the notes coinciding with Savannah Guthrie’s return to work, suggesting a deliberate attempt to distress the family without providing any evidence of Nancy’s well-being.
Coffindaffer doubted the credibility of the individual requesting bitcoin, emphasizing their avoidance of the substantial $1.2 million reward offered by the family. She suggested that these demands for quick cryptocurrency payments indicated fraudulent intentions.
An extensive investigation involving multiple agencies has been initiated following the suspected kidnapping. Surveillance footage from Nancy’s home captured an armed individual wearing a mask and carrying a backpack.
In response to her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie temporarily stepped back from her presenting duties to assist in the search efforts. She later expressed gratitude to law enforcement and the public for their support during this challenging time.
Law enforcement officials continue to pursue leads, with Nancy’s current status remaining uncertain.
