US Attorney General Pam Bondi has spoken out following her dismissal by President Donald Trump via Truth Social. Trump confirmed the decision on Thursday, stating that Bondi will be transitioning to a new role in the private sector. Todd Blanche, the Deputy Attorney General, will serve as Acting Attorney General in the interim.
In response to the news, Bondi expressed her commitment to facilitating a smooth transition to Blanche before taking on her new private sector position. Trump praised Bondi as a “Great American Patriot” who effectively oversaw a reduction in crime rates during her tenure.
Reports suggest that Trump is considering Lee Zeldin, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, as Bondi’s replacement. Bondi’s dismissal reportedly occurred just before Trump’s prime time address on the Iran conflict, despite her attempts to dissuade him.
Earlier in the week, Trump and Bondi appeared together at the US Supreme Court, where a ruling against the president’s attempt to eliminate birthright citizenship was announced. There were reports of a heated argument between Trump and Bondi the previous week, with the reason undisclosed.
Following Bondi’s removal, Rep. Robert Garcia emphasized that she would still be expected to testify before the House Oversight Committee regarding the Epstein files. Bondi’s dismissal comes on the heels of Trump’s recent removal of another Cabinet member and his reported plans to dismiss National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard.
