President Donald Trump reportedly informed Attorney General Pam Bondi that her tenure leading the US Justice Department is nearing its conclusion due to his dissatisfaction with the handling of the Epstein Files.
Speculation surrounding Bondi’s future in Washington DC escalated as Trump allegedly expressed to her that her time in the role is coming to an end. Bondi oversaw the administration’s management of the Epstein Files, a matter that has been a source of significant frustration for Trump, who is mentioned in the files numerous times.
Trump is said to have lost faith in Bondi after a congressional committee, with bipartisan support, summoned her to testify under oath regarding the probe into Epstein’s activities. It is important to note that being mentioned in the files does not imply guilt or knowledge of the crimes associated with Epstein.
Although Trump’s name is included in FBI documents related to unverified allegations of child sexual misconduct, the White House has vehemently dismissed these claims as unfounded and lacking credible evidence.
There are discussions of Trump potentially replacing Bondi with Lee Zeldin, the current head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Zeldin, a former congressman and staunch supporter of Trump, played a key role in defending the President during his initial impeachment proceedings.
Reports from The New York Times suggest that Trump has yet to make a final decision regarding Bondi’s dismissal. Bondi recently accompanied Trump to the Supreme Court for a hearing on his efforts to eliminate birthright citizenship.
In a statement to the Times, Trump praised Bondi as a capable individual and expressed his satisfaction with her performance. Nevertheless, multiple sources cited by US political news website Semafor indicated that Trump had informed Bondi that her tenure as Attorney General is drawing to a close.
