In a recent video by Travel + Leisure, cabin crew members shared behind-the-scenes insights, recalling shocking experiences onboard.
One flight attendant, Joy, recounted witnessing a passenger putting their feet on a tray table, which she considered the grossest thing she had seen mid-flight. She also described a passenger standing up with pants falling down and sitting back without pulling them up, leaving a bare bum on the seat.
Another flight attendant, Luke, emphasized the importance of cleaning plane seats thoroughly before use, using Clorox wipes to sanitize every surface. Despite such unhygienic incidents, the crew members also highlighted the impact of passengers’ behavior on flight experiences.
Amara, a flight attendant with three years of experience, mentioned how passengers often claim to know proper airplane etiquette but end up being troublesome, like making phone calls during flights. Jorge, with four years in the industry, pointed out a common mistake of expecting flight attendants to assist with lifting heavy bags, which is typically prohibited for safety reasons.
Moreover, flight attendants occasionally resort to small deceptions for passengers’ benefit. For instance, they may serve decaf coffee to business class passengers on night flights to help them sleep. Similarly, when passengers request a warmer cabin temperature, attendants might falsely assure them of adjusting it while preferring the cooler environment themselves.
