Fitbit, a longstanding brand in the wearable technology industry for over 15 years, is introducing a new device called Fitbit Air. Unlike previous models, the Fitbit Air does not have a screen and resembles popular bands like Whoop that wrap around the wrist like a fashion accessory.
Although the Fitbit Air lacks features such as message notifications and heart rate monitoring seen in other Fitbit models, it offers unique advantages. It boasts a more comfortable fit, resembling a bracelet-style strap rather than a traditional smartwatch. In a recent study by Google, the Fitbit Air was rated as more comfortable than its competitors.
One standout feature of the Fitbit Air is its impressive battery life, lasting up to a week on a single charge. Additionally, the device supports fast charging, providing a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The inclusion of a new magnetic charger with bi-directional technology ensures convenient recharging without the need to orient the device correctly.
Despite its minimalist design, the Fitbit Air retains core Fitbit functionalities. It can track sleep patterns, daily activity levels, exercise routines, heart rate, and monitor potential health conditions like AFib by sending notifications for irregular heart rhythms.
Internally, the Fitbit Air is equipped with features such as an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor. Data collected by the device is directly synced to smartphones, where the Google Health Coach app can provide comprehensive health insights.
The Fitbit Air is water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be available in four colors: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender. Priced at £84.99, the Fitbit Air offers a budget-friendly option for individuals looking to track their fitness levels without the need for a traditional screen interface.
