Vodafone is set to introduce a new method for internet access. Instead of traditional copper or fiber connections, the company’s latest Wi-Fi router operates through a 5G mobile signal, enabling users to download files and stream content without the need for physical cables.
This innovation caters to households without access to high-speed fiber connections, offering greater flexibility as the device can be easily relocated. This feature is particularly advantageous for renters or students who frequently change residences.
One of the key benefits of this new system is its simple installation process. Since it utilizes Vodafone’s network, there is no requirement for a technician to visit or perform complex installation procedures. Users can simply plug the device into a power source, turn it on, and instantly connect to the internet.
It is important to note that this system provides speeds of up to 150Mbps, suitable for activities like streaming movies on platforms such as Netflix, sending emails, and working remotely. However, it falls short of the speeds offered by full fiber connections, which can exceed 900Mbps.
To assist consumers in making informed decisions, Vodafone is launching an integrated availability checker on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband would offer the fastest speeds in their location.
Vodafone had previously offered internet access via 5G through their GigaCube device, which has now been replaced by the new router. Rob Winterschladen, Vodafone’s Consumer Director, emphasized the importance of providing fast and reliable broadband options to households currently experiencing slow and unreliable connections.
Furthermore, Vodafone’s pricing for this service starts at £21 per month, while Three, a company now under Vodafone, offers a similar service priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
