A man was reportedly attacked with a hammer by a woman while he was hospitalized in Sydney’s inner west during the early hours.
The NSW Police responded to an assault at a hospital in Camperdown at 12:15 am on Thursday, April 9. The woman, who is believed to have known the man, entered the hospital and assaulted the 63-year-old victim.
The man sustained severe injuries and is in critical condition after being struck in the head with a hammer during the assault. A 46-year-old woman was apprehended and charged with intentionally causing serious harm to the victim.
Authorities are investigating a possible link between the attack and a recent family death of the man, which has led to a will dispute, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
A spokesperson for the NSW Police stated, “A woman will be brought to court following an alleged assault in Sydney’s inner west today. Emergency services were called to a hospital in Camperdown at around 12:15 am on Thursday, April 9, after reports of an assault. Officers were informed that a woman allegedly entered the hospital and attacked a 63-year-old man who she knew. The man sustained serious injuries after being hit with a hammer and is in critical condition. The 46-year-old woman was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.”
Sydney Local Health District emphasized the safety of patients and staff, condemning any form of violence in hospitals. An incident occurred at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where a patient was assaulted by a visitor, with no other individuals harmed. The matter is under investigation by the NSW Police, and support is being provided to witnesses by the health district.
