A tragic incident occurred on Easter Sunday, resulting in the death of a three-year-old boy who was shot in the head. Armani Deshawn Lyons was under the care of a 71-year-old babysitter at an Atlanta apartment when emergency services were summoned to the scene. The authorities responded to a shooting report at approximately 12:37 a.m. on April 5 in the vicinity of the 900 block of Washington Street SW, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Upon their arrival, emergency responders found the young child with a gunshot wound. The child was rushed to a hospital by ambulance, where medical staff pronounced him deceased. The 71-year-old babysitter has been taken into custody, while a second suspect remains at large.
A police statement indicated, “Upon arriving at the location, officers discovered a 3-year-old child who had sustained a gunshot wound. The child was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where medical personnel pronounced the child deceased.”
Homicide investigators have identified the suspects involved in the case as 71-year-old Barbara Edwards and 35-year-old Jermaine Hardeman. Both are facing charges of Felony Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree.
Barbara Edwards was apprehended on April 13, 2026, at 2944 Landrum Drive and charged with Cruelty to Children, Murder, and Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon. Jermaine Hardeman remains at large. The investigation is ongoing.
