Declan Queally and Nico de Boinville have resolved their dispute following an incident at Cheltenham Festival. The altercation occurred during the Turners Novices’ Hurdle race, where tensions rose due to a chaotic start with two false beginnings. De Boinville finished second on Act Of Innocence, while Queally came in fifth on I’ll Sort That.
Queally initially expressed being verbally abused by De Boinville and reported the incident as racially motivated to BHA stewards. De Boinville declined to comment at the time. However, in a recent interview with ITV after The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle, both jockeys shook hands and confirmed that the matter had been resolved.
Queally stated, “All sorted, just a heat of the moment battle, all is forgiven and best of luck to Nico in the future.” De Boinville added, “Very much so, I appreciate Declan, wish him all the best and big thanks to Davy Russell for sorting this out.”
Former Champion Jockey AP McCoy commended their reconciliation, calling it the right thing to do. The jockeys then exchanged another handshake before preparing for the next race.
