A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent assault on a woman, a crime that was reported to the UK police by Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump. Matvei Rumiantsev, a Russian national, was convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court for the attack, which was witnessed by Barron during a video call.
During the trial, Barron, aged 20, informed law enforcement that he had seen Rumiantsev assaulting his friend in London on January 18 the previous year. Prosecutors revealed that Rumiantsev was envious of the victim’s relationship with Mr. Trump, noting the urgency and concern in Barron’s call to the police.
Apart from the assault charge, Rumiantsev was also found guilty of attempting to obstruct justice by asking the victim to retract her accusations while he was in prison. However, he was acquitted of two counts of rape and intentional strangulation, as well as another count of rape and assault alleged to have occurred in November 2024.
The judge stated that Rumiantsev should face deportation upon completing his sentence, but if not, he would be released on license after serving 40% of the four-year term. Rumiantsev will be under supervision and could be sent back to prison if he violates the terms of his release.
The judge criticized Rumiantsev for his lack of remorse and attempt to shift blame onto the victim during the trial. He emphasized that the evidence showed the victim endured a prolonged assault, causing her to fear for her life. Barron Trump’s testimony further corroborated the events, as he described witnessing a brief yet distressing incident via a video call.
The exchange between Barron and the emergency operator highlighted the urgency of the situation, with Barron providing crucial information to assist the authorities in responding to the assault.
