The latest updates on the wildfire situation in British Columbia show positive progress as evacuation orders in the District of Summerland have been partially lifted. The order affecting Summerland has been downgraded to an alert for an area east of Highway 97 and the Trout Creek neighborhood on the west side of the highway. Additionally, Highway 97 through Summerland has fully reopened to all traffic.
Evacuation orders are gradually being lifted in areas of concern, such as Clinton and Summerland. However, the B.C. Wildfire Service warns that smoke covering the southern part of the province is expected to persist until Sunday. There is also a possibility of lightning-caused fires due to an unstable weather pattern.
In Summerland, more residents are being allowed to return home as evacuation orders are downgraded. Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes stated that around 800 properties have had orders downgraded, bringing the total under evacuation alert to approximately 1,200 properties. The mayor mentioned that out of the initial 5,500 properties under evacuation, damage assessments have been completed, but the exact number of properties affected by the fire remains uncertain.
Highway 97, which had been closed near Cache Creek due to the Pear Lake wildfire, partially reopened on Saturday. Officials emphasize that the reopening is subject to fire behavior and the requirements of the B.C. Wildfire Service crew.
The B.C. Wildfire Service is closely monitoring the weather for potential lightning strikes that could lead to new fires in the southern region. Efforts are underway to combat the over 120 fires burning across the province, with firefighting personnel from New Brunswick and Quebec being deployed to assist.

The Bald Range wildfire near Summerland continues to pose challenges, covering an area of over 210 square kilometers. Highway 1 north of Hope in the Fraser Canyon remains closed due to wildfires, with the Brunswick Creek wildfire complex around Boston Bar also affecting a significant area.
