“Save Money on Mobile and Broadband Bills Before April Hikes”

Date:

Millions of mobile and broadband users have the opportunity to avoid upcoming April bill increases by taking proactive steps now. As per Uswitch, around 8 million broadband subscribers and 14 million mobile users are currently not under contract and could benefit financially by exploring other options.

Failing to act and allowing bills to rise without seeking better deals or negotiating with current providers is a common mistake. Several major companies like O2, Virgin, Three, and Vodafone are planning to raise prices starting in April.

Mobile and broadband companies are now required to disclose bill increases in specific monetary terms rather than linking them to inflation. According to Ernest Doku from Uswitch, individuals could collectively save £633 by taking action promptly. Switching providers can result in average savings of £329 for broadband users and £304 for mobile users transitioning to SIM-only contracts.

It is likely that if you are out of contract, you are overpaying for your mobile and broadband services. Before comparing prices elsewhere, assess your current usage to determine if you are paying for more than you need. Utilize comparison websites such as Uswitch, Compare the Market, Confused.com, or MoneySupermarket to find the most cost-effective deals.

After comparing prices online, consider switching to a cheaper provider or negotiating with your current one for better rates. Politely informing your provider of better offers elsewhere and inquiring if they can match or beat them is advisable when bargaining for a better deal.

If your current provider cannot offer a lower price, contemplate switching to a different one. Additionally, check cashback websites for potential incentives when signing up for a new broadband or mobile plan.

If you receive benefits, inquire about eligibility for social tariffs, which can start from £12 per month for broadband and £10 for mobile services. Eligibility criteria vary among suppliers, but common benefits like Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Personal Independence Payment, and Attendance Allowance are often accepted.

Research by Broadband Genie indicates that approximately 5.3 million UK households are eligible for reduced tariffs, yet about 4.8 million are not currently benefiting from them. Contact your broadband or mobile provider to check if you qualify for their social tariff.
