“Russian Missile Strikes Kill 3, Injure 20 in Kyiv”

Date:

At least three people were killed and 20 others were wounded in Kyiv early Thursday due to Russian ballistic missile strikes, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The attacks caused significant damage to buildings and resulted in power outages in parts of the Ukrainian capital.

Following the Russian assault, a fire erupted on the upper levels of a nine-story residential building, trapping individuals in various locations as the strikes targeted apartments, non-residential structures, warehouses, and even a children’s hospital. Witnesses in the area reported hearing over a dozen explosions, with another casualty reported in the vicinity of Kyiv.

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has escalated since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, leading to daily exchanges of attacks. Despite diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Europe, a lasting ceasefire has yet to be achieved.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed that Ukraine had submitted peace proposals to U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner earlier this month, who have not visited Kyiv despite their previous trip to Moscow in January. Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, mentioned that Russia had not received specific proposals for future meetings with U.S. negotiators but expressed readiness to arrange a meeting promptly if needed.
