“Nursery Owners Donate 450+ Trees to Wildfire-Hit Community”

Date:

Last summer, the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove faced severe wildfires, but a couple from the Codroy Valley stepped in to provide relief by donating more than 450 trees to the community.

Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who were winding down their nursery business, traveled a long distance to Conception Bay North to distribute thousands of trees. Warren expressed empathy for the community’s loss and a desire to assist, citing a heartfelt intention to help in any way possible.

However, their journey hit a snag when they encountered a prolonged delay due to a vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada highway, forcing them to sleep in their truck upon arrival. Undeterred, the couple persevered, and the following day, they set up a distribution point where residents eagerly collected the donated trees.

Bragg described the community’s response as heartwarming, noting the joy in seeing people excited to receive and plant the trees. Warren shared touching encounters with residents, including a woman who lost her entire garden to the wildfires, reinforcing the significance of their donation.

The couple was moved by residents’ plans to replant cedars near the school and the overall positive atmosphere during the tree distribution. Bragg estimated the value of the donated trees at nearly $9,000.

Mayor Curtis Delaney expressed gratitude for Bragg and Warren’s generosity, emphasizing that their kindness extended beyond the trees to uplift the community after the previous year’s devastation. Bragg also revealed intentions to send thousands of seeds to the community in the coming summer to further support reforestation efforts.

Their humble approach, devoid of seeking recognition, underlined their commitment to restoring greenery in the area and fostering community resilience.
