The Canadian government has adjusted its list of counter-tariffs by removing seafood and fish products and adding copper wire and charcoal to maintain equal retaliation against the U.S. The decision to remove seafood items was made following industry feedback, as stated in a release by Finance Canada. Ottawa’s response to recent U.S. tariffs includes doubling duties on American steel and aluminum products to 50%, along with imposing a 25% tariff on various seafood items.
Additionally, the Ministry of Finance confirmed the inclusion of copper wire, charcoal, plaster sheets, tiles, and printed photographs on the countermeasure list, all subject to a 50% tariff starting from September 8. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne emphasized that the decision was made in the best interest of Canada after considering feedback from Canadians. However, he did not directly address the potential implications of this move on the U.S. administration.
