A man delivering Chinese takeout struck a dog walker and left the victim to perish before expressing concern about his damaged vehicle. Aaron Jones, a father of two, was walking his family’s Labrador in Llanpumsaint, Wales, when delivery driver Daniel Wyke collided with him on December 23, 2024.
Following the impact, Aaron was flung over a stone wall into a nearby churchyard. His family, describing him as a kind-hearted individual, realized he was missing after a concerned member of the public found their dog unattended on the road. A frantic search ensued, with friends and family scouring the area for Aaron, who had set out for his routine walk just moments before the incident.
Eyewitnesses revealed that Wyke, the delivery driver, stopped his vehicle down the road and began collecting debris, including his damaged bumper. He initially claimed to have hit a branch or tree, feigning ignorance about the ownership of the dog involved in the collision. Despite spotting Aaron’s body over the wall, Wyke failed to alert authorities or seek medical assistance. Instead, he resumed his deliveries but returned to the crash site shortly after, where his apprehensive behavior raised suspicions among onlookers.
Aaron’s friends eventually discovered him by spotting his high-visibility jacket over the wall. Despite their efforts to administer CPR until emergency services arrived, Aaron tragically succumbed to his injuries. Wyke, in a bid to evade responsibility, switched cars with his father and continued his delivery duties, concluding his shift later that evening.
After forensic analysis linked fibers from Aaron’s jacket to Wyke’s vehicle, the driver was apprehended the following day and subsequently sentenced to four and a half years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving. The judge admonished Wyke for his callous actions, emphasizing that he prioritized his own interests over aiding the victim. The judge highlighted Wyke’s lack of regard for human life, noting that his decision to flee the scene showcased a blatant disregard for the well-being of the injured party and his loved ones.
