“Dolly Parton Tribute: Nashville Airport Name Change Approved”

Date:

It’s been confirmed that the late Dolly Parton will soon have a new tribute as Nashville International Airport in Tennessee is poised to undergo a name change in her honor. The airport’s board of commissioners approved the renaming last Friday.

The idea to rename the airport after the iconic singer was initially suggested last year, but it gained traction following Parton’s recent passing at the age of 80. A social media movement initiated by fans advocating for the change garnered significant support, especially after Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee endorsed the proposal.

Governor Lee expressed that Dolly Parton’s remarkable life is deeply ingrained in the state’s history, making it fitting for Nashville International Airport to bear the name of Tennessee’s beloved figure. He emphasized that the airport, as a gateway welcoming visitors from around the world, should reflect the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.

The decision made on Friday was hailed by Governor Lee as a significant step in honoring Dolly’s exceptional legacy, highlighting her role in promoting Tennessee to the world. Notably, Dolly Parton’s contributions to the state, including the substantial economic impact of her Dollywood theme park, were underscored.

Having been born in Tennessee and raised in a humble one-room cabin, Dolly Parton’s journey to stardom began at a young age, performing at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry at just 13 years old. Her subsequent move to Nashville after high school marked the start of her illustrious music career.

Although the timeline for the renaming process remains unclear, the airport’s current policy stipulates a two-year posthumous period before naming any property after an individual, as reported by the New York Times.

The specific name that will honor Dolly Parton at the airport is yet to be determined. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority assured that they are collaborating with relevant stakeholders to carefully decide how to incorporate Dolly Parton’s name and legacy into the airport.
