Massive smoke clouds are visible emanating from a British motor oil company in Erbil, Kurdistan’s capital in Iraq, due to drone strikes amidst ongoing Middle East conflicts. Following remarks by Tehran’s UK ambassador on potential strikes on British military bases, the Castrol oil plant has been set ablaze.
Iraq, like other neighboring nations to Iran, has become entangled in the conflict since February 28, facing repeated drone attacks causing disruptions to gulf shipping and damaging oil infrastructure. Export of crude oil, vital for Iraq’s revenue, is now imperiled.
A drone strike ignited a major fire at Castrol oil warehouses in Erbil, managed by the Sardar Group, leading to extensive damage due to the inflammable materials stockpiled at the site. Fortunately, no staff members were harmed in the incident.
Erbil governor Omid Xoshnaw reported multiple drone attacks targeting the oil depot, with emergency responders struggling to contain the escalating fire. The intensity of the bombardment left the facility engulfed in flames, forcing the evacuation of emergency personnel for safety reasons.
Iran’s ambassador to the UK expressed considerations for attacks on British military bases, citing the UK’s alleged involvement in the conflict. The ambassador emphasized self-defense concerns and indicated that Iranian military authorities would make decisions based on UK activities.
