Emma Raducanu is taking her time to select a new long-term coach following her recent split with Francisco Roig earlier this year. Roig, the ninth coach and seventh official coach to part ways with Raducanu, had differing opinions on her playing style, leading to their separation after the Australian Open.
Currently, Raducanu is working with her hitting partner, Alexis Canter, and is content with this arrangement as she prepares for the Indian Wells tournament in California. While she continues to collaborate with Mark Petchey on a daily basis, Petchey’s broadcasting commitments limit his availability for full-time coaching.
Expressing her perspective on coaching, Raducanu emphasized the importance of reconnecting with her natural playing instincts. She highlighted the challenge of finding a coach who aligns perfectly with her needs, expressing openness to exploring different coaching approaches rather than committing to a single coach.
Reflecting on her positive experience with Petchey, Raducanu praised his support and guidance, noting his impact on both her tennis performance and personal development. She recalled their insightful discussions during a hike in Los Angeles, emphasizing the valuable learnings she gained from their interactions.
Raducanu’s approach underscores her desire for autonomy in her playing style while acknowledging the benefits of mentorship and support from experienced individuals like Petchey.
