Two individuals sustained injuries following a knife-related altercation that occurred on a street in Solingen, a city in northwestern Germany.
In response to the incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon, a significant police operation was initiated in the city center. The intervention, as reported by Bild, involved the deployment of heavily armed officers to the scene where a bloodied knife was observed on the ground within a secured police perimeter.
According to police spokesman Alexander Kresta, the dispute, which involved two men, resulted in multiple emergency calls being received around 4:51 pm. While the motive behind the argument remains unclear, authorities believe that the individuals were acquainted with each other.
A 48-year-old man sustained multiple stab wounds to the upper body during the altercation, as per Bild. Additionally, a 52-year-old man who intervened to stop the fight was described as “seriously injured” by prosecutor Patrick Penders of the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office.
Bild also reported that a unit of riot police happened to be conducting an active shooter training exercise nearby when the altercation unfolded. Subsequently, officers swiftly responded to the scene, using both a firearm and a Taser to subdue the alleged attacker, a 46-year-old individual who was subsequently apprehended. The two injured men were then transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Local newspaper Solinger Tageblatt highlighted that the incident occurred on Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, causing significant disruptions to traffic flow in the area. Both motorists and pedestrians were advised to steer clear of the affected area.
