Recent data from UK regulator Ofcom reveals varying performance levels among major broadband providers in the country. Ofcom’s latest report highlights the disparity in customer complaints, with TalkTalk, Vodafone, and EE ranking below the national average in terms of customer dissatisfaction.
According to Ofcom, “EE, TalkTalk, and Vodafone received the highest number of broadband complaints.”
Ofcom noted that while EE’s complaint figures remained consistent with the previous quarter, TalkTalk and Vodafone experienced an uptick in complaints.
Conversely, Plusnet emerged as the least complained-about broadband provider, surpassing expectations given its relation to BT alongside EE. Ofcom highlighted, “Plusnet received the fewest complaints among broadband providers.”
Following Plusnet, Sky secured the second spot for minimal complaints, indicating a positive user experience. Additionally, Virgin Media witnessed a notable improvement, transitioning from being one of the worst for complaints to currently ranking third for customer satisfaction.
The data highlights the disparity between providers, with Plusnet leading the pack with only 4 complaints per 100,000 customers, while Sky, Virgin Media, BT, Vodafone, EE, and TalkTalk received 6 to 11 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Aside from broadband services, Ofcom also monitors complaints related to landline and pay-TV services. Utility Warehouse excelled in landline services with only 1 complaint per 100,000 customers, while Sky, Virgin Media, and Vodafone also demonstrated strong performance in this category.
In contrast, TalkTalk ranked lowest in landline complaints, underlining the need for improvement in this area. However, TalkTalk outperformed its competitors in TV services, registering the fewest complaints compared to Sky, Virgin Media, and EE.
Although complaint volumes have remained steady across broadband, mobile, and pay-TV sectors, there is a growing concern about the lack of improvement in service quality. Ernest Doku, a telecoms expert at uswitch.com, expressed that customers are becoming less tolerant of subpar services amidst rising costs.
Doku noted, “Plusnet’s exceptional performance in receiving the fewest complaints reinforces its reputation as a top broadband provider, recognized at the Uswitch 2026 Telecoms Awards. As annual prices are set to increase, customers are advised to assess if their current provider justifies the cost and explore alternatives for better value.”
