“Police Apprehend Suspect in Niagara Falls Murder Case”

Date:

Authorities have apprehended one of the two individuals sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16. Josta MacNeal was taken into custody by the Montreal Police Service and is set to be extradited to Niagara Falls. She is facing charges of second-degree murder in relation to the death of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, as confirmed by the Niagara Regional Police Service.

The police had previously identified MacNeal as 30 years old, while the other suspect, Maaroof Bangi, who was said to be 23, is currently evading capture. According to law enforcement, Bangi is considered armed and dangerous since no firearm has been recovered in connection with the incident.

A cautionary statement released by the police advised the public not to approach Bangi if spotted and to immediately contact emergency services by dialing 911. The authorities have also urged Bangi to seek legal counsel and surrender himself.

Initial reports from the police indicated that the two suspects had visited an apartment complex on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls just before 9 p.m. ET on the day of the shooting, where they carried out the fatal attack on Snoddon. Despite being rushed to the hospital by ambulance, Snoddon succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Targeted Nature of the Shooting

Law enforcement officials believe that the shooting was a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence, although they have advised the public to remain vigilant. Earlier on, the police had released surveillance footage of the suspects and sought assistance from the community in locating them.

Initially, the suspects were reported to be driving a Nissan Rogue SUV from the years 2022 to 2026. Subsequently, there were reports that the fugitives had switched to a 2016 Toyota Camry with specific identifiable damage, last seen in Hastings, Ontario.

Prior to this development, a Mazda CX5, believed to be used by the suspects, was recovered by law enforcement. Detectives have also indicated that the individuals might attempt to alter their appearances to avoid detection, including changing hair length and color, makeup, clothing styles, and facial hair.

The public is encouraged to provide any information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
