Russian state TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov has suggested that Russia should launch attacks on the United Kingdom and several other European countries. Solovyov made these statements during his radio show conversation about Russia’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine, now in its fifth year. He specifically mentioned the UK, Norway, Germany, and Romania as potential targets, alleging that these nations harbor factories producing weaponry supplied to Ukraine.
These comments were made shortly before European foreign ministers visited Ukraine to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Bucha massacre, where Russian forces reportedly killed over 500 civilians near Kyiv. Speaking on his radio program ‘Full Contact’, Solovyov emphasized the need for a prolonged strategy in the conflict, stating that a different approach is necessary for Russia to change the course of the war in Ukraine.
The TV host highlighted that weapons used by Ukraine are sourced from various channels, with a significant portion acquired from the US and supported by NATO allies through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism. He also mentioned President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements regarding the domestic production of weapons in Ukraine, including the existence of numerous drone manufacturing companies in the country.
Solovyov, known for hosting ‘Full Contact’ on state-run Vesti FM and ‘Evening with Vladimir Solovyov’ on Russia-1, has been a prominent figure on Russian state television for years. Despite a decline in viewership of state TV, Solovyov’s provocative remarks and those of other propagandists are often seen as attempts to provoke and unsettle Western powers.
Efforts led by the US to resolve the conflict in Ukraine have faced obstacles, with attention diverted due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Zelensky announced plans for a video conference involving American negotiators and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte to discuss strategies to end Russia’s invasion. However, these talks have not yet produced any significant breakthroughs on crucial issues.
