Russia intensified its drone attacks on Ukraine in March, setting a record high since the full-scale invasion in 2022. Despite the onslaught, Ukraine has managed to hold back Moscow’s advancement. Rejecting Kyiv’s proposal for an Easter truce, Moscow launched over 6,400 long-range drone strikes on Ukraine last month, marking a 28% increase from February, as reported by the Ukrainian air force.
On March 24, Russia unleashed more than 1,000 drones within 24 hours, resulting in one of the largest single-day drone assaults since the war began. This attack caused several casualties and numerous injuries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared a positive shift in the conflict, stating that the frontline situation is currently the most stable in the past ten months. However, Russian attacks persist, with recent strikes in Kharkiv and Shostka leading to casualties and further suffering for civilians.
Russia’s drone tactics aim to undermine the morale of Ukrainian civilians by inflicting misery and hardship on their cities. As the US diverts resources to the Iran conflict and peace negotiations, Russia has escalated drone attacks to project a false image of victory to the US, despite facing setbacks on the ground.
Despite facing significant challenges, Kyiv continues to resist the Russian aggression, with Russian forces experiencing daily casualties exceeding 1,000. The Institute for the Study of War in New York revealed that Ukraine has escalated attacks deep into Russian territory.
Continuous drone assaults on Russia’s oil infrastructure have severely impacted Vladimir Putin’s financial resources for the war effort. These attacks have significantly reduced Moscow’s capacity to export oil internationally. Ukrainian forces persist with their long-range strike campaign, targeting Russian oil facilities, affecting Moscow’s ability to sustain its military operations.
