Dash Crofts, one half of the renowned American soft rock duo Seals and Crofts, known for their chart-topping hits like “Summer Breeze,” has passed away at the age of 85. The Texas-born musician, whose real name was Darrell “Dash” Crofts, was a key figure in delivering beloved soft rock tunes such as “Diamond Girl” and “Get Closer” in collaboration with Jimmy Seals.
His producer Louie Shelton shared the news of Crofts’ passing on Thursday, March 26, expressing condolences and fond memories of their musical partnership. Crofts has been remembered by friends and peers as a true music legend, credited for crafting timeless songs that resonate with audiences.
US country singer Pauline Reese paid tribute to Crofts, reminiscing about their meeting and the impact of his music on her life. Crofts, alongside Seals, formed Seals and Crofts in the late 1960s, contributing to the soft rock movement that included iconic groups like Hall and Oates and Bread. The duo disbanded in 1980 but reunited in subsequent years to create their final album, “Traces.”
During the band’s hiatus, Crofts released a solo album titled “Today” and pursued interests in farming. He shared his life with his wife Billie Lee Day and their daughters, Amelia and Lua, both accomplished vocalists. Amelia is part of the musical group the Humming Birds, continuing the musical legacy established by Seals and Crofts.
