Serena Williams is set to partner with Carlos Alcaraz in the mixed doubles event at the upcoming U.S. Open, forming a formidable duo for the tournament. The U.S. Tennis Association confirmed on Saturday that Williams and Alcaraz received a wild card entry for the mixed doubles main draw, which commences on Tuesday.
This marks Williams’ return to the U.S. Open after her last appearance in 2022. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion made a comeback to tennis earlier this summer, and while it remains uncertain if she will participate in the singles event in New York, the USTA has reserved a women’s wild card spot for her if she decides to compete. Notably, Williams played singles at Wimbledon and teamed up with her sister Venus in the doubles competition at the Cincinnati Open.
On the other hand, Alcaraz confirmed his intention to defend his U.S. Open singles title this week after a hiatus due to a right wrist injury he sustained in April.
