Driving through the rural landscapes of Pembrokeshire, you might come across what appears to be an extraterrestrial craft that has landed on Earth. Don’t worry, you’re not in danger of alien abduction; you’ve likely stumbled upon a unique Airbnb accommodation.
Nestled along a secluded country road near the Welsh village of Templeton lies the Melin Mabes glamping site. Offering three distinct lodging options amidst the countryside – a traditional caravan, a treehouse, and the most peculiar choice, the Spodnic UFO. Once showcased on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, this space-themed lodging is housed in a small fibreglass structure purchased by the owners on eBay.
Originally constructed for London’s 2012 Olympics to house generators, the ‘UFO’ was transformed by its current owners into a quirky vacation spot. The pod is now available for booking on Airbnb or the Melin Mabes website.
Inside, the pod has undergone a complete makeover with silver walls, sci-fi decorations, and playful elements. It features a double bed, bunk beds for four guests, and an inflatable alien for company.
At the heart of the pod, a ladder leads to a platform with a glass dome, offering a telescope for stargazing and picturesque views of the Welsh countryside. Outside, a covered kitchen area includes essential amenities like a fridge, cooker, and running water, along with a dining setup.
One of the most exciting features is the bathroom, designed as a replica TARDIS box, complete with a private shower, toilet, and sink, ensuring convenience and privacy for guests.
Adjacent to the Spodnic, guests can enjoy a private hot tub and outdoor shower, with the enclosed outdoor space allowing furry friends to roam freely.
This unconventional Airbnb is just a short distance from the village, where visitors can explore a cozy pub and quaint cottages. Nearby is the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, a family-friendly attraction offering a range of activities and accommodations, including lodges and glamping options, with complimentary entry to the park’s attractions during the stay.
A brief 15-minute drive leads to Saundersfoot Beach, a popular Blue Flag beach with shallow waters ideal for family outings. The beach features a working harbour and a historic lighthouse, with local restaurants nearby offering freshly caught seafood for a delightful dining experience.
