“Winn-Dixie to Close Long-Standing Palm Beach Gardens Store”

Date:

After more than a century in operation, a long-standing grocery store is set to close its doors. Winn-Dixie, a prominent regional grocery chain in the United States, is undergoing significant changes that include store closures. The Garden Park Plaza store located at 8924 N. Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens will be the latest store in the chain to shut down, with the closing date expected to be around mid-April.

Winn-Dixie stated that tough decisions are sometimes necessary for transformation, which can involve closing stores to ensure the company’s future success. Affected employees will have the opportunity to seek positions at nearby locations. Despite maintaining a robust presence in Florida with approximately 327 stores, the Garden Park Plaza store is the only one in its specific vicinity, with the nearest location over 10 miles away.

This closure follows Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers in 2024, which included 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets branches. Subsequently, former Southeastern CEO Anthony Hucker, along with a group of investors, repurchased 170 Winn-Dixie stores from Aldi. Founded in 1925 in Miami, the chain now operates around 360 stores across five states in the U.S.

The closure of the Palm Beach Gardens store may signify forthcoming larger changes as the grocery industry faces challenges, particularly from non-traditional retailers.
