Driver Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. This win marked a special moment as Jamieson’s father had also clinched the race title back in 2006, establishing them as the first father-son duo to achieve this feat.
Expressing his elation, Jamieson described the win as a dream come true, highlighting the significance of winning such a prestigious event. The Gold Cup and Saucer race, boasting a $100,000 prize purse, attracts participants from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually.
Having grown up watching the race, Jamieson recalled his fondness for his father’s victory with the longshot Banner Yankee in 2006. However, his recent triumph with Fifth and Five now holds a special place in his heart, labeling it as his favorite win of all time.
During the race, Jamieson strategically followed the horse and driver in the first post position, maintaining his focus on crossing the finish line first. Despite knowing it would be a close finish, he remained steadfast in executing his race plan.
Fifth and Five, the winning duo, clocked a time of 1:49.4, with Jamieson commending the horse for meeting all the necessary criteria for success on the track. Following the victory, Jamieson expressed his overwhelming joy, stating that the win had fulfilled a lifelong dream and that he was savoring the moment to the fullest.
