In a Calgary court, a prosecutor revealed disturbing text messages exchanged between two men who planned to lure, confine, and assault women for profit. Steven Zwick, one of the men, detailed a chilling scenario involving his ex-girlfriend, Chelsea Davidenas. Despite her brave resistance, Davidenas tragically lost her life during the attempted assault.
Originally facing first-degree murder charges, Zwick ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a life sentence without parole eligibility for 15 years. Another individual, referred to as PR, is also implicated in the case, with his trial scheduled for January.
The heinous plot unfolded in February 2024 when Zwick, who was homeless, and PR, living in a boarding house, conspired to record themselves assaulting women for financial gain. Their initial target, a woman named Ashley, backed out, leading them to target Davidenas instead.
Text messages between the men revealed their sinister intentions of silencing and restraining their victims. Following the fatal assault on Davidenas, the men callously left her body in PR’s room while planning another attack on Ashley. Fortunately, Ashley managed to escape their clutches and seek help from friends, leading to Zwick’s confession and eventual arrest.
During the court proceedings, Davidenas’ loved ones expressed profound grief and loss, emphasizing her vibrant spirit and the devastation caused by her untimely death. The presiding judge condemned the perpetrators’ actions as deplorable and highlighted the profound suffering inflicted upon the victims in the case.
