The Minnesota Frost have secured their captain Kendall Coyne Schofield for another two years with a new contract, dispelling any speculation that the 34-year-old might take a break following the United States’ Olympic gold medal victory in February. This move ensures that the Frost will maintain their seasoned leadership core for the upcoming fourth season, which has remained unchanged since claiming back-to-back Walter Cup titles in 2024 and 2025. Alongside alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek, Coyne Schofield expressed her excitement about returning for the next two seasons and her determination to reclaim the Walter Cup for Minnesota.
Hailing from Chicago, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive resume as a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of the PWHL in 2023. Despite missing seven games due to an upper-body injury sustained during the Milan-Cortina Games, she tallied 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games last season. Her career stats of 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 77 PWHL games rank her third on the league’s all-time list.
Initially uncertain about her playing status this season, Coyne Schofield’s return bolsters the Frost’s roster, which currently includes 17 contracted players, eight of whom were part of the team’s previous cup victories. While the Frost placed third in the standings last season, their quest for a third title was cut short in a decisive Game 5 loss to eventual champions Montreal.
