Apple has unveiled the latest version of its popular AirTag, a small tracking device that helps users locate lost items. The new AirTag features an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, providing a much-improved range for more accurate tracking. With this update, Precision Finding has been enhanced by up to 50%, making it easier to find misplaced items from a greater distance. Users can now also utilize Precision Finding on select Apple Watch models, enabling them to track down lost items directly from their wrist.
Additionally, Apple has enhanced the new AirTag with a redesigned internal speaker that emits sounds 50% louder than its predecessor, making it easier to locate the device in hard-to-reach places. The AirTag continues to rely on Apple’s Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to anonymously relay location updates back to the owner. Apple emphasizes that the AirTag does not store location history on the device and all communication with the Find My network is encrypted for privacy and security.
Furthermore, the new AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature that allows users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties like airlines to aid in recovering lost belongings. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines to support this feature. The new AirTag is now available for order on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. The starting price for a single AirTag is £29, while a pack of four is priced at £99, making it more affordable than the original version.
