“Trump Pushes ‘SAVE America Act,’ Evokes Jesus Amid DHS Chaos”

Date:

In a speech delivered in Memphis, Tennessee, former President Donald Trump referenced Jesus Christ in his push for Congress to approve his proposed election integrity legislation. The legislation, known as the “SAVE America Act,” would require voters to present photo identification to register, a requirement that some believe could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters lacking such identification.

Additionally, Trump’s bill seeks to eliminate postal and absentee voting, mandating that the majority of Americans vote in person on Election Day. It also includes provisions allowing the President to access state-held voter rolls, leading to concerns that he may use this information to cast doubt on the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections and make unfounded claims of voter fraud.

To expedite the passage of the bill, Trump has urged Republicans to attach it to funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a move that has sparked chaos within the United States. This decision has further exacerbated existing tensions as Democrats had previously delayed DHS funding in a bid to implement reforms for ICE agents, including prohibitions on facial coverings and the mandatory use of body cameras.

Trump’s insistence on passing the controversial bill has led him to call for the Senate to forgo their Easter break and remain in Washington, D.C., emphasizing the importance of the legislation by invoking religious sentiments. The former President highlighted the connection between homeland security and voter identification requirements, urging lawmakers to prioritize the bill in the name of Jesus.

In response to the funding delays, ICE agents have been deployed to U.S. airports, causing disruptions and concerns among travelers. The increased presence of federal immigration officers, particularly at TSA security checkpoints, has raised fears of heightened tensions. While the exact role of ICE agents in airport security remains unclear, Trump has suggested they could assist TSA personnel by monitoring exit lanes and verifying passenger identities, primarily at larger airports with extended wait times.

Despite these efforts, lengthy wait times and checkpoint closures persist at major airports, with facilities like Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental advising passengers to allocate several hours for security screenings. The situation continues to evolve, with ongoing concerns about the impact of federal immigration officers on airport operations and traveler experiences.
