According to a recent report by SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, boasting an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed enables downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, more than triple the national average.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, with BT (EE) in the third position. TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of under 95Mbps.
The average download speeds of the top ISPs in the UK are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps
SpeedGo’s analysis also highlights upload speeds, crucial for users sending large files or working remotely. Vodafone leads in this aspect with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which secures the second position with 47.2Mbps.
In line with the report, SpeedGo stated, “In 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom, with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone excelled in average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.”
