A mother returned home to a horrifying situation when she discovered her roommate allegedly attempting to push her child out of a window and then trying to drown the five-year-old. Identified as Karen Garcia, the mother had entrusted her two children, aged five and 11, to 41-year-old Vira Zabudko while she was out running errands. Zabudko, who reportedly lived in the same apartment as Garcia and her children, was left in charge during the mother’s absence.
Upon the mother’s return, she encountered resistance from Zabudko, who prevented her from entering the apartment. After finally gaining access, the mother found Zabudko allegedly forcing her five-year-old out of the window through the screen. A confrontation ensued, during which Zabudko instructed the child to take a shower to cleanse his sins and also attempted to coerce the mother into the shower area.
Fortunately, Garcia managed to escape with both her children. When authorities located them, they were all drenched. Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele expressed concern over the incident, highlighting Zabudko’s alleged religious remarks while committing the acts. Zabudko has been charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person, and simple assault. She was arrested and subsequently released on bail, with a court date set for April 9.
