A driver responsible for the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two close friends of boxer Anthony Joshua has been charged with reckless and dangerous driving. The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was at the wheel of a black Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua, Latif Ayodele, and Sina Ghami when it collided with a parked truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Kayode, who fled the scene but was later located, has been charged and granted bail pending trial.
According to police sources, Kayode faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid license. The case has been adjourned until January 20. Meanwhile, Joshua has been discharged from the hospital after sustaining minor injuries in the crash and has paid his respects to the deceased at a funeral home.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by a tire blowout due to speeding. The truck involved was illegally parked, and the driver was not present during the collision. Tributes have poured in for the deceased, with boxing figures and fans expressing their condolences and support for Joshua during this difficult time. Plans for Joshua’s future fights may be affected by the tragic event, as the boxing community rallies around him during this period of mourning.
