Two individuals lost their lives instantly in a tragic accident involving the SUV carrying Anthony Joshua, as reported by witnesses. Following the incident, the British boxer was rushed to a hospital in Nigeria due to injuries sustained. The collision occurred between Joshua’s SUV and a stationary truck near Makun along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun state.
Reports indicate that the crash was a result of Joshua’s vehicle swerving after a tire blowout, leading to a loss of control. Local authorities, including the Ogun state traffic compliance and enforcement agency, are investigating the incident in collaboration with the police.
Eyewitnesses, like Adeniyi Orojo, recounted the scene, mentioning that the convoy consisted of two vehicles—a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated in the rear with another passenger beside him while two others occupied the front seats, resulting in four individuals in the crashed Lexus. The security team was trailing behind the vehicle before the accident occurred. Tragically, the passenger next to the driver and the individual beside Joshua passed away at the scene.
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, confirmed that Joshua was safe and en route to the hospital after being informed of the accident while on holiday in the Caribbean.
