“British Man Faces Hostility for Trump Support in Thailand”

Date:

A man from Britain who impersonates Donald Trump and owns a bar dedicated to the former US president in Thailand has revealed that he has experienced hostility and threats due to his support for Trump. Paul Cross, a former postman residing in Thailand since 2006, shared that he has been verbally and physically attacked since opening Trump Tower Thailand on Jomtien Beach near Pattaya last year. Despite being originally from Bristol, the 64-year-old expatriate expressed his admiration for Trump and his pro-America stance.

Cross recounted an incident where an American tourist spat at him and attempted to assault him while he was dressed in his customary MAGA cap, blue suit, and red tie last October. Opting to avoid confrontation, Cross humorously mentioned that he had invested in dental work and Botox, making it not worth engaging in a fight. His vocal endorsement of Trump has led to multiple confrontations in public, including one where a British tourist insulted his hometown.

However, Cross mentioned that his views are well-received by many, especially among the tolerant locals who enjoy seeing him dressed as Trump. He shared positive experiences of being offered drinks by individuals in clubs, highlighting the warm reception he receives in Thailand. Having been a postman in the UK for over two decades, Cross fell in love with Thailand during a visit in 1991, leading to his eventual relocation in 2006. He has operated several bars in the country and established Trump Tower Thailand following his divorce from his wife of nine years.

Despite the controversial theme of his bar and merchandise, Cross stated that Democrats are welcome at his establishment. He also noted that guests from Russia, admirers of strong leadership, often frequent his bar. In an effort to ensure transparency, Cross reached out to The Trump Organization last year to inform them about his bar’s theme and use of Trump-related items, receiving no objection.

Describing his bar as a tourist attraction and a place for open discussions, Cross expressed his optimism for the future, referring to his establishment as his “last-chance saloon.” He highlighted that his bar serves as a platform for diverse conversations, welcoming individuals from various backgrounds.

Overall, Cross remains positive about the reception of his bar and his portrayal of Trump in Thailand, emphasizing the welcoming atmosphere and the freedom to engage in discussions on various topics.
