Indonesian authorities have delayed the deportation of British criminal Steven Lyons to Spain. Originally set to be extradited via Qatar Airways on Wednesday, the 45-year-old will now be deported on Thursday, as confirmed by Bali’s immigration office spokesperson, Husnan Handano. The reason for the delay was not disclosed.
Lyons, described as a suspected leader of an international criminal organization, was detained in Bali under an Interpol Red Notice. This arrest followed a police operation in Spain and Scotland, resulting in the apprehension of 13 individuals linked to organized crime.
Police Scotland affirmed Lyons’ arrest and mentioned ongoing collaboration with law enforcement agencies across Europe. Additionally, his wife, Amanda, was arrested in Dubai. The couple’s arrests followed coordinated dawn raids in Scotland and Spain after a two-year investigation into a suspected drug trafficking network.
Eight men arrested in Scotland appeared in court facing various charges related to organized crime. Simultaneously, Spanish authorities conducted raids in Malaga and Barcelona, leading to five arrests. Europol reported the seizure of a £600,000 villa and two land plots in Turkey as part of the operation.
Images released by the immigration office showed Lyons visibly shaken, dressed in a black t-shirt and green shorts, being escorted by officials through Bali Airport. Known as SL, he was seen surrounded by law enforcement officers. Lyons had been living in Dubai since 2006 before being expelled from the UAE last year due to his association with Scottish gang activities.
