“UK Faces Over 2,000 Pub Closures as Derbyshire Dales Revealed as Pub Hub”

Date:

The UK’s leading pub hub has been identified, located in a picturesque region featuring charming taverns and scenic landscapes.

Amid a challenging period for the pub industry, projections indicate a dire situation with numerous closures expected without adequate support. Reports suggest that over 2,000 establishments could shut down this year, a significant increase compared to the 378 closures recorded in 2025. Concerns raised by the UK Hospitality and the British Beer and Pub Association highlight the necessity for pubs to sell an additional 1.3 billion pints of beer annually to counter escalating taxes.

Despite the somber outlook, the nation still boasts a multitude of exceptional pubs, with certain areas experiencing relative prosperity within the trade.

Recent data analysis by The Mirror reveals that the Derbyshire Dales have the highest concentration of pubs in England and Wales, totaling 152 establishments within the council’s jurisdiction. This equates to 25 pubs for every 10,000 adults residing in the area.

Excluding regions with skewed figures due to low population density like the City of London and the Isles of Scilly, the Derbyshire Dales leads in pub density. Westminster follows closely with 23 pubs per 10,000 adults, while Powys and Pembrokeshire each have 23 and 21 pubs per 10,000 adults, respectively. Several council areas including Westmorland and Furness, North Yorkshire, Gwynedd, and Ceredigion boast 18 pubs per 10,000 adults.

For a detailed overview of pub density across various council areas, an interactive map is available for reference.

London councils dominate the list of areas with the highest pub density relative to their size. The City of London tops the chart with 188 pubs per square mile, followed by Westminster with 407 pubs per square mile. Other boroughs like Islington, Camden, Hackney, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham also exhibit significant pub concentrations per square mile.

Liverpool stands out as the city with the densest pub presence outside of London, hosting 502 pubs, translating to nearly 12 pubs per square mile. Manchester, Portsmouth, Blackpool, Norwich, Brighton, and Bristol also feature notable pub densities per square mile.
