Two individuals tragically lost their lives following a plane crash at Marana Regional Airport in Arizona. The incident occurred when the passenger plane skidded off the runway and caught fire upon impact. Marana Mayor Jon Post confirmed the event to News 4 Tucson.
The Northwest Fire District successfully contained the blaze after responding to the scene. City spokesperson Vic Hathaway mentioned that two people were on board the aircraft, and their identities remain undisclosed. The Marana Police Department reported no other injuries or involvement of additional aircraft.
An update from the Marana Police Department revealed that the authorities responded to the incident, confirming the fatalities and lack of other casualties. The National Transportation Safety Board will further investigate the crash, with the cause still unknown at this time.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in February 2025 when two small single-engine planes collided at the same airport, resulting in two fatalities. Marana Regional Airport temporarily closed for investigations after the recent accident.
Remarkably, this marks the third fatal plane crash in southern Arizona within a year. Last June, Miguel Ornelas and Roberto Guerrero lost their lives in a light aircraft crash near Green Valley, Arizona, shortly after departing from Ryan Airfield. The aviation community expressed condolences for the victims and their families.
