“High-Risk Inmate Classified as ‘Escape Risk’ at ‘Monster Mansion'”

Date:

A prisoner at a facility referred to as “Monster Mansion” has been classified as an ‘escape risk’ due to his extreme dangerousness. This inmate, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently held at Wakefield prison and is considered the most likely individual to evade the UK prison system. Among the approximately 7,500 detainees at this high-security institution in West Yorkshire, he is the sole occupant placed in this high-risk category.

Wakefield prison, often dubbed as “Monster Mansion,” has gained notoriety for housing several infamous inmates, including ‘Dr. Death’ Harold Shipman, Ian Huntley, and Roy Whiting. The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) has labeled the highest risk prisoner as ‘E List,’ the ‘E’ signifying ‘escape.’

According to the recent IMB assessment, Wakefield prison had a capacity of 7,441 as of March 2025, with 634 non-Category A high-risk prisoners and 149 Category A prisoners. Among these, nine individuals are identified as the highest risk, with one inmate placed on the ‘escape list’ (E List). The IMB experts noted that ‘E-list’ prisoners at HMP Wakefield are closely monitored with enhanced supervision requirements, including regular 60-minute checks and meticulous tracking of their movements.

The Ministry of Justice declined to confirm whether the ‘E’ list prisoner was the former soldier Daniel Khalife. Khalife had previously escaped from HMP Wandsworth in London in 2023 and was subsequently convicted and sentenced to over 14 years in prison. Despite Khalife’s high-risk status resulting from his escape, the prison authorities refrained from discussing the specifics of the ‘E’ list system in Wakefield or individual prisoners.
