Iran has persisted in launching missiles towards Israel despite the ceasefire initiated by Donald Trump. The missile attacks by both Iran and Israel right after the ceasefire announcement triggered alerts across several countries in the Middle East. An Iranian attack caused a gas processing facility in Abu Dhabi to catch fire this morning.
Although Trump had agreed to a 10-point plan proposed by Iran, including a fee for ships passing through the Hormuz Strait, missile activities have resumed in the region. Israel has agreed to halt its bombing operations during the two-week ceasefire period as per a senior White House official.
Trump initially praised Iran’s plan but later labeled it as fraudulent without providing details, emphasizing the importance of ending Iran’s nuclear program. The ceasefire announcement also included the suspension of strikes on Iranian infrastructure, extending to Israeli military actions.
Trump expressed optimism for world peace on social media after the ceasefire announcement, noting Iran’s willingness to cooperate. Pakistani leaders intervened to request a suspension of planned strikes, which Trump agreed to for two weeks contingent on Iran opening the Hormuz Strait completely and safely.
The agreement is perceived as a two-sided ceasefire, with Washington considering Tehran’s proposal a feasible basis for negotiations. However, the deal does not address conflicts with Hezbollah in Lebanon, as highlighted by Israel’s Prime Minister. The ceasefire announcement sparked anti-American and anti-Israel sentiment in Iran’s capital.
